The overall objective of the Atlazul project is to identify challenges, opportunities and generate networks that promote cross-border specialization in terms of Blue Growth, as well as to develop innovations in the field of Blue Economy policies related to metabolic processes that provide new solutions with digital support and the improvement of terrestrial and marine knowledge.


The Alentejo-Algarve-Andalusia Euroregion, with the additional participation of Galicia, aims to deepen the opportunities by promoting Blue Growth policies that exploit the synergies arising from constructive relationships between the various sectors operating in this area: fishing, aquaculture, marine renewable energies, ports, shipping services, coastal tourism and shipping, biotechnology and also the marine coastal environment.


This overall objective will reinforce the scientific excellence of the Cross-Border Cooperation Area by linking it to issues of great international importance and of European priority, such as: digital solutions to the problem of metabolic processes in the marine and maritime-terrestrial environment.​

Co-financed by the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal programme, POCTEP, the Spain-Portugal Operational Programme for Cross-Border Cooperation, Atlazul is a project led by the General Secretariat for External Action (SGAE) of the Presidency Council, Public Administration and Interior of the Junta de Andalucía.


The consortium of this project has as beneficiaries from Andalusia and Galicia the Andalusian Agency for the Management of Agriculture and Fisheries (AGAPA), the Andalusian Public Ports Agency (APPA), the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training (IFAPA), the Public Company for Tourism and Tourism Management, SA, the Andalusian Agency for External Promotion (EXTENDA), the International Maritime Campus of Excellence (CEIMAR), the Andalusian Maritime-Marine Cluster (CMMA), the Aquaculture Technology Centre Foundation (CTAQUA), the Marine Research Institute (IIM), and the Maritime Technology Centre (CETMAR). On behalf of the Alentejo and Algarve region, the University of Évora, University of Algarve, DOCAPESCA Portos e Lotas, SA, Sines Tecnopolo, Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), Alentejo Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Alentejo) and Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR Algarve).
